CAMFT Annual Conference & Continuing Education Committee

Composition of Committee:
The Annual Conference and Continuing Education Committee shall be comprised of no less than five nor more than seven committee members, a majority of who shall be voting members of CAMFT (as well as pre-licensed members). One member must be a psychologist. The Chair of the Committee is the Chair of the Educational Foundation or someone appointed by the Chair of the Educational Foundation.

Term:
Committee members will be appointed in June and will serve a two-year term, concluding with the Annual Conference they plan.  A new Committee is appointed each June, so there will always be two Committees serving concurrently (one Committee will be in the first year of the term and one Committee will be in the second year of the term). 

Committee Reports to:
CAMFT Board of Directors in writing via Committee Minutes.

Purpose/Function of the Committee:
The Annual Conference and Continuing Education Committee shall advise and recommend the themes, programs, presenters, topics, events, promotions, and attendance to make the Annual Conference and the Fall Symposium attendance to make the Annual Conference and the Fall Symposium representative of the diverse needs of the mental health profession.

Responsibilities of Committee:

  • Exchange ideas on the problems, trends, and new concepts of the profession to facilitate the planning and promotion of a Conference tailored to the needs of the profession.
  • Recommend educational programs and presenters designed to meet the needs of the profession and diverse populations.
  • Promote the conference to obtain an ample number of registrants.
  • Recommend an opening program to motivate and acquaint registrants with the events of the Conference and for other programs.
  • Promote an exhibit area.
  • Recommend social activities to give registrants a chance to meet one another.
  • Select from proposals submitted to present those most qualified and relevant to the Conference theme.
  • Acknowledge communications concerning committee work. Most communication will be done via the CAMFT Community.
  • Determine availability for committee meetings and inform chair or staff as soon as possible.
  • Get acquainted with the chair and other members.
  • Review pertinent background material and agenda before coming to meetings.
  • Take an active part in all discussions.
  • Share information and experience directly related to a subject or problem under discussion.
  • Understand and respect other ideas or conflicting viewpoints.
  • Attack problems objectively and impersonally.
  • Stay on the subject under discussion.
  • Ask for clarification on any point or problem not fully understood.
  • Accept and follow through on assignments.

Notice of Meetings:
All committees will be notified via e-mail. The committee will hold two face-to-face meetings for the Annual Conference and have on-going communication via the CAMFT Community. The committee will conduct business through the CAMFT Community for the Fall Symposium.

Quorum:
A majority of the committee members shall constitute a quorum of the committee for the transaction of business.

Minutes:
Committee is required to maintain accurate minutes of all committee meetings. The CAMFT administrative office must receive a copy of the minutes of each committee meeting within a reasonable time following the meeting. Refer to CAMFT Board Policy on the keeping of minutes.

Purposes of the Annual Conference:

  • To fulfill the charter provisions of the association.
  • To provide a gathering place where members can meet informally with colleagues to discuss mutual problems and share in professional development.
  • To inform an audience of the important developments and trends in the field through talks by knowledgeable speakers and, possibly, a display of exhibits.
  • To develop a source of income.
  • To permit association members to enjoy themselves, network, and relax away from work.
  • To attract and sign up new members through their attendance.
  • To gain publicity for the association.
  • To give members a sense of pride and satisfaction with the association arising from the quality of the entire Conference.
  • Continuing education and hours of experience.
