CAMFT Staff participated in 8 meetings with BBS Board, BBS Policy and Advocacy Committee, BBS Exempt Setting Committee, BBS License Portability Committee, Senate Business and Professions Committee, California Association of Health Plans, Department of Health Care Services Stakeholder Advisory Committee, AAMFT-CA, California Coalition for Mental Health Parity, and Stipend Award Committee.  It is critical for CAMFT to have a place at the table with other mental health professionals and regulatory bodies. These meetings will always be a high priority.

CAMFT Legal Staff responded to over 2,210 calls from members with questions on legal, ethical and licensure issues.  Access to this expert, legal guidance is one of the most beneficial and popular member benefits.

Over 11,090 people visited the CounselingCalifornia.com website with 9,506 of those being unique visitors. There were hits to 2,396 different therapist profiles and 24,446 total page views. The newly re-designed CounselingCalifornia.com marketing tool is available to all members for the purpose of promoting services to the public. Create your profile now.

CAMFT held its Fall Symposium October 27-28, 2017, at the Hilton, Anaheim, CA.  There were 220 people in attendance.  The Fall Symposium featured today’s most complex and member requested topics, a book store and exhibit hall.  The next Fall Symposium will be held in Northern California, at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, November 9-10, 2018.

CAMFT Staff filed 1 Amicus Brief supporting Respondent’s Motion to Reconsider the Court’s Decision on the Department of Homeland Security’s Motion to Preclude the Testimony of an MFT Registered Intern in a removal proceeding.  CAMFT Staff submitted 3 advocacy letters to:

  • US Senators John Barrasso and Debbie Stabenow, thanking each for co-sponsoring the Seniors Mental Health Access Improvement Act of 2017 (S 1879). 
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs, requesting clarification of the Proposed Rule on the Authority of Health Care Providers to Practice Telehealth.

CAMFT consistently interacts with key legislators and agencies to reinforce how proposed legislation, regulation, or other actions may be beneficial or harmful to LMFTs and MFT Interns and Trainees.  Advocacy is a cornerstone of CAMFT’s commitment to members.

CAMFT Lobbyists attended 3 receptions for US Representatives Chu, Royal-Allard, and Napolitano.  The goal of the CAMFT PAC is to ensure that Marriage and Family Therapist-friendly candidates and incumbents from both political parties get elected to the California legislature. We support candidates who have demonstrated an understanding and willingness to fight for the issues most important to Marriage and Family Therapists. Click here to donate to the CAMFT PAC!

CAMFT Staff promoted CAMFT membership and CounselingCalifornia.com at 1 professional exhibit:  National Association for Social Workers.  CAMFT promotes its member services and benefits to other mental health practitioners as an additional professional resource.

CAMFT Board participated in 2 Chapter meetings:  Long Beach-South Bay and Southwest Riverside County.  Chapter meetings are a prime opportunity for CAMFT leadership and staff to hear directly from members and exchange ideas for serving members.  Click here to connect with your local chapter.

CAMFT Staff presented Law and Ethics seminars at 2 Chapters and 1 School:  Monterey, Southwest Riverside, and Hope International University, and presented a Law and Ethics seminar webinar to 1 school:  Point Loma Nazarene University.  The law and ethics seminar is a valuable training tool that gets consistently positive response from MFTs and other participants.
