CAMFT Staff participated in 10 meetings with Irregulars, BBS, California Coalition for Mental Health Parity, DHCS Managed Care Advisory Group, Medi-Cal Children’s Health Advisory Panel, and consortium meetings in Central Coast, Imperial County, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. It is critical for CAMFT to have a place at the table with other mental health professionals and regulatory bodies. These meetings will always be a high priority.

CAMFT Legal Staff responded to over 2,000 calls from members with questions on legal, ethical and licensure issues. Access to this expert, legal guidance is one of the most beneficial and popular member benefits.

Over 9,330 people visited the CounselingCalifornia.com website with 7,998 of those being unique visitors. There were hits to 4,012 different therapist profiles and 18,545 total page views. The newly re-designed CounselingCalifornia.com marketing tool is available to all members for the purpose of promoting services to the public. Create your profile now.

CAMFT Staff submitted 8 advocacy letters to:

  • US Representatives Aguilar, Brownley, Chu, Eshoo, Lowenthal, Lieu, and Napolitano, thanking each for co-sponsoring the Mental Health Access Improvement Act of 2017 (HR 3032)
  • Nathan Nau, Chief of the Managed Care Quality and Monitoring Division of the Department of Health Care Services, regarding the Draft All Plan Letter, Provider Credentialing/Recredentialing and Screening/Enrollment.

CAMFT consistently interacts with key legislators and agencies to reinforce how proposed legislation, regulation, or other actions may be beneficial or harmful to LMFTs and MFT Interns and Trainees. Advocacy is a cornerstone of CAMFT’s commitment to members.

CAMFT Lobbyists attended 4 receptions for Assembly Republican Leader Dahle and US Representatives Calvert, Correa, and Peters. The goal of the CAMFT PAC is to ensure that Marriage and Family Therapist-friendly candidates and incumbents from both political parties get elected to the California legislature. We support candidates who have demonstrated an understanding and willingness to fight for the issues most important to Marriage and Family Therapists. Click here to donate to the CAMFT PAC !

CAMFT Board participated in 1 Chapter meeting: Southwest Riverside County. Chapter meetings are a prime opportunity for CAMFT leadership and staff to hear directly from members and exchange ideas for serving members. Click here to connect with your local chapter .

CAMFT Staff presented Law and Ethics seminars at 3 Chapters: San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Clara Valley. The law and ethics seminar is a valuable training tool that gets consistently positive response from MFTs and other participants.

CAMFT Staff presented Road to Licensure seminar at 1 school: University of Phoenix. The Road to Licensure seminar provides practical guidance for students seeking their MFT license and is provided free of charge to CAMFT Chapters once per year.

The CAMFT Ethics Committee, in collaboration with legal staff and 2 former committee chairs serving as expert consultants, held their third meeting of the year on September 15-16, 2017, to discuss and draft proposed revisions to the CAMFT Code of Ethics. The CAMFT Chapter Issues and Grassroots Task Forces, Chapter Advisory, Connects, Crisis Response Education and Resource, and Legislative Committees also met.
