ABOUT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Governing Board

The CAMFT Board is a “governing” board. A governing board helps create the vision, mission, values, and policies for the organization and ensures that the principles and finances are properly respected. The Board, itself, does not actively run programs and services.

OPEN POSITIONS FOR THE 2019-2020 CAMFT BOARD
Term of office begins June 1, 2019 for the following positions:


ELIGIBILITY

Per the CAMFT Bylaws, Article VI, Section C(2) and C(3),

  • Clinical members who wish to be placed on the ballot by petition must have been a voting member of CAMFT for at least two years upon taking office, or must have been a Pre-Licensed member and voting member consecutively for at least two years immediately prior to taking office.
  • Pre-Licensed members who wish to be placed on the ballot by petition must have been a Pre-Licensed member for at least six months upon taking office.
  • No person shall serve on the Board for more than four consecutive years, except that a person who has served four years may run for President-Elect.

BOARD MEMBER TIME COMMITMENT
As a Board member, you will be expected to attend the following:

  • Quarterly Meetings (Board meetings begin Saturday morning and end on Sunday afternoon. Board members arrive on the Friday evening prior to participate in “Board-to-Board” receptions with local Chapter leaders.)
    • June 8-9, 2019
    • September 7-8, 2019
    • December 7-8, 2019
    • March, 2020 (Exact Dates TBD)
  • 2020 Chapter Leadership Conference and CAMFT Connects – February, 2020
  • Sacramento Fly-In – March, 2020
  • DC Fly-In – April, 2020
  • 2020 Annual Conference – April, 2020

Additional time commitments include:

  • Attendance at Chapter meetings, as needed
  • Interacting with the local offices of state and federal legislators to educate the legislators and staff about the work of LMFTs and CAMFT
  • April 25-27, 2019 Annual Conference (Incoming Board members are eligible to receive complimentary registration but are responsible for all other associated expenses, as term of office does not begin until June 1, 2019.)

Board members are reimbursed for attendance at events per the CAMFT Board and Committee Reimbursement Policy .

HOW TO APPLY

Application
Download and complete the 2019-2020 Application. Full and complete applications, including references and resume, must be received by the CAMFT Administrative office by 4:30 pm on Friday, October 26, 2018.

Interview
All applicants must interview with the Nominating Committee in person (see the Nominee Interviews for CAMFT Board of Directors Policy). The Nominating Committee will interview applicants on the following dates:

  • November 16, 2018 – Northern California Applicants (Oakland)
  • November 30, 2018 – Southern California Applicants (Pasadena)
  • Applicants will be notified of their scheduled interview time on October 30, 2018, and are responsible for their own travel expenses for this interview. The slate of candidates will be selected following completion of these interviews.

Petition Process
If you wish to have your name on the ballot by petition instead of nomination, please follow these guidelines:

  • Petitions with all signatures must be submitted to the CAMFT Administrative office by 4:30 pm on Monday, January 21, 2019.
  • Validity of signatures
    • All signatures on petitions must have been obtained between April 22, 2018 and January 21, 2019 to be valid.
    • Clinical members must submit a petition with a minimum of 384 signatures. (This number represents 2% of the applicable voting membership on April 22, 2018.)
    • Pre-Licensed members must submit a petition with a minimum of 187 signatures. (This represents 2% of the applicable voting membership on April 22, 2018.)
  • Eligibility
    • Clinical members who wish to be placed on the ballot by petition must have been a voting member of CAMFT for at least two years upon taking office, or must have been a Pre-Licensed member and voting member consecutively for at least two years immediately prior to taking office.
    • Pre-Licensed members who wish to be placed on the ballot by petition must have been a Pre-Licensed member for at least six months upon taking office.
    • No person shall serve on the Board for more than four consecutive years, except that a person who has served four years may run for President-Elect.
  • Use the 2019-2020 Petition Guidelines and Form to gather signatures.
