Welcome to “Behind the Scenes.” This monthly,
online column provides members with a backstage pass to see what CAMFT
is doing to serve our members and how we are working to ensure that
LMFTs interests are being served.
March 2012
-
Staff attended meetings with: Mental Health Irregulars,
CA Coalition for Mental Health, American Counseling Association
(attended annual conference), and the MFT Consortiums of Los Angeles,
San Diego, Orange County, and Sacramento. It is critical
for CAMFT to have a place at the table with other mental health
professionals and regulatory bodies. These meetings will always be a
high priority.
-
Staff submitted 2 position letters to the Assembly
Committee on Health, 1 position letter to the Senate Committee on
Judiciary, and 4 position letters to the following legislators: Senator
Leland Yee, Assembly Member Bonnie Lowenthal, Assembly Member Cameron
Smyth, and Assembly Member Roger Hernandez. Staff also had 1 meeting
with Senator Ted Lieu’s staff. CAMFT consistently
interacts with key legislators to reinforce how proposed legislation may
be beneficial or harmful to LMFTs and MFT Interns and
Trainees. Advocacy is a cornerstone of CAMFT’s
commitment to members.
-
Staff Attorneys responded to 2, 172 calls from
members on legal, ethical, and licensure
issues. Access to this expert, legal guidance is one
of the most beneficial and popular member benefits.
-
14,010 people visited the CounselingCalifornia.com website,
with hits to 3,112 different therapist profiles and 10,052 unique
therapist profile pagviews. This marketing tool is
available to all clinical, associate, and life members for the purpose
of promoting services to the public. Create your profile now.
-
CAMFT’s lobbyist participated in 2 PAC events.
The goal of the CAMFT PAC is to ensure that Marriage and Family
Therapist-friendly candidates and incumbents from both political parties
get elected to the California legislature. We support candidates who
have demonstrated an understanding and willingness to fight for the
issues most important to Marriage and Family Therapists. Click here to donate to the CAMFT PAC!
-
Staff and Board members participated in meetings with 3
chapters: Marin County, Orange County, and the San Fernando
Valley Chapter. Chapter meetings are a prime opportunity for CAMFT
leadership and staff to hear directly from members and exchange ideas
for serving members. Click here to connect with your local chapter.
-
Staff and Board members presented at 5 schools:
Santa Clara University, Notre Dame de Namur University, Azusa Pacific
University, Pepperdine University, and University of California San
Diego. Presentations to schools are an effective way to engage the
next generation of CAMFT members.
-
Staff Attorneys presented 2 Law and Ethics seminars at the
following chapters/agencies/schools: Redding Regional Chapter
and Hope International University. The law and ethics seminar is a
valuable training tool that gets consistently positive response from
MFTs and other participants.
-
Staff coordinated 2 parenting magazine “Ask the
Expert” responses, 1 feature newsletter article, 1 publication
interview, and 2 press releases (posted by over 500 online
outlets, all of which highlighted CAMFT members as mental health
experts). Articles and television interviews by or featuring
LMFTs educate potential clients about the services and scope of
knowledge of LMFTs.
-
