CAMFT Behind the Scenes

Welcome to “Behind the Scenes.”  This monthly, online column provides members with a backstage pass to see what CAMFT is doing to serve our members and how we are working to ensure that LMFTs interests are being served.

November, 2011

  • Staff attended meetings with: Mental Health Irregulars, Access Coalition, MFT Consortium of Greater Sacramento, BBS Board, Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC)/Consumer Provider Plan Agency (CPPA), CA Coalition for Mental Health (CCMH), US Department of Health and Human Services, and Assembly Bill 114 Transition Workgroup. It is critical for CAMFT to have a place at the table with other mental health professionals and regulatory bodies. These meetings will always be a high priority.
  • Staff Attorneys responded to 1,929 calls from members on legal, ethical, and licensure issues. Access to this expert, legal guidance is one of the most beneficial and popular member benefits.
  • 11,736 people visited the CounselingCalifornia.com website, with hits to 3,532 different therapist profiles. This free, marketing tool is available to all clinical, associate, and life members for the purpose of promoting your services to the public.  Create your profile now.
  • Screening for Mental Health” feature added to CounselingCalifornia.com. The material presented from “Screening for Mental Health” is a resource for consumers to use for informational purposes/personal assessment only and is not a substitute for individualized mental health therapy, a diagnosis, a professional assessment, or treatment.
  • CAMFT.org mobile website launched. Those people who access camft.org via a mobile device will now get an easily navigated, abbreviated version of the full camft.org website. This mobile site includes the Code of Ethics, Behind the Scenes, Contact CAMFT, Advocacy, and News and Events.
  • 2 media releases distributed: Tips for Caring for Yourself When a Loved One has Alzheimer’s disease” and “Managing Addiction During the Holiday Season.” Over 220 online outlets published each of the media releases. Articles by or featuring LMFTs educate potential clients about the services and scope of knowledge of LMFTs.
  • Staff and Board members participated in 6 meetings with chapters: Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clara Valley, San Diego North County, San Diego, and Santa Cruz. Chapter meetings are a prime opportunity for CAMFT leadership and staff to hear directly from members and exchange ideas for serving members.
  • Staff Attorneys hosted 2 free members-only webinars:  “Grandparenting into LPCC Licensure:  Beat the December 31 Deadline. Webinars are an interactive, cost-effective tool for conveying important and timely information to large segments of the membership.  The LPCC webinar is available on our website for members to view (must log on).
  • Board members presented at 1 school:Pepperdine University – Irvine Graduate Campus.  Presentations to schools is an effective way to engage the next generation of CAMFT members.
