CAMFT Behind the Scenes

Welcome to our newest feature: “CAMFT: Behind the Scenes.”   This monthly, online column will provide members with a backstage pass to see what CAMFT is doing to serve our members and how we are working to insure that MFTs interests are being served.

September, 2011

  • Staff attended meetings with:  Access Coalition, Mental Health Services Act Partners Forum, the Irregulars, MFT Leadership Collaborative, MFT Consortium of Central Coast, MFT Consortium of Orange County, MFT Consortium of Greater Los Angeles, Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC)/Consumer Provider Plan Agency (CPPA), San Diego Behavioral Health Consortium, California Coalition of Mental Health and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.   It is critical for CAMFT to have a place at the table with other mental health professionals and regulatory bodies.  These meetings will always be a high priority.

  • Staff submitted 1 position letter to the Governor:  The legislature adjourned on September 9, 2011 and will re-convene in January, 2012.   CAMFT consistently interacts with key legislators to reinforce how proposed legislation may be beneficial or harmful to MFTs.   Advocacy is a cornerstone of CAMFT’s commitment to members.

  • Staff Attorneys responded to 1,949 calls from members on legal, ethical, and licensure issues.    Access to this expert, legal guidance is one of the most beneficial and popular member benefits.

  • 10,887 people visited the CounselingCalifornia.com website, with hits to 5655 different therapist profiles.   This website is a free, marketing tool available to all clinical and life members as a way to promote your services to the public.  Create your profile now.

  • Staff added content to CounselingCalifornia.com about managing a child’s back-to-school anxiety. Regularly updating content on CounselingCalifornia.com educates potential clients about the services of MFTs.

  • Staff coordinated the publication in parenting magazines of 2 articles written by CAMFT members.   Articles by MFTs educate potential clients about the services and scope of knowledge of MFTs.

  • Staff and Board members participated in 4 chapter meetings:  San Gabriel Valley, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles and Orange County. Chapter meetings are a prime opportunity for CAMFT leadership and staff to hear directly from members and exchange ideas for serving members.

  • Staff Attorneys created and hosted 2 free members-only webinars:  “LPCC Licensure: Beat the December 31 Deadline” and, in partnership with TherapySites, staff sponsored a free members-only webinar:  “4 Online Marketing Trends That Will Make or Break Your Practice. Webinars are an interactive, cost-effective tool for conveying important and timely information to large segments of the membership.    View the LPCC webinar  and The TherapySites marketing webinar online now. Member login and password is required.

  • Staff Attorneys presented (via Skype) at 1 school:  California State University, Fresno.  Presentation to schools is an effective way to engage the next generation of CAMFT members.

  • Staff and Board members exhibited at 4 events:  California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors, California Academy of Physician Assistants, African American Health Empowerment Expo, and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI California is a grass roots organization of families and individuals whose lives have been affected by serious mental illness). We market CAMFT to reach out to potential associate members at association events and we market CounselingCalifornia.com as a referral source at consumer events.

  • Staff coordinated reciprocal web link partnerships with 2 referral organizations:  California Association of School Counselors (CASC) and California Council of Community Mental Health Agencies (CCCHMA). CAMFT regularly conducts outreach to other professionals.

  • CAMFT Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and PAC Executive Committee met. View the Highlights from the Board of Directors meeting.   The Board of Directors will meet again January 21-22, 2012in Sacramento.
