MANDATORY CONTINUING EDUCATION |
| New regulation takes effect January 1, 2002 requiring mandatory continuing education in Law and Ethics. Every license renewal period, every LMFT and LCSW who holds an active license will be required to have had six hours of continuing education coursework in law and ethics, taken from a BBS approved provider. This new requirement will begin to affect licensees who renew on and after January 1, 2004. |

HOURS OF COURSEWORK IN LAW AND ETHICS NOW REQUIRED

Therefore, licensees who renew in the years 2002 and 2003 will not have to comply with this new regulation. Example: If your license renews on December 31, 2003, you will not be required to take a law and ethics course for the renewal period ending in 2003. You will be required to take a law and ethics for your renewal in 2005. Licensees who renew on or after January 1, 2004 will be required to have taken the six-hour course within the two-year period preceding the renewal. Example: If your license renews on January 31, 2004, you will be required to take the course within the two years preceding your 2004 license renewal (between February 1, 2002 and January 31, 2004). This six-hour, BBS approved, law and ethics course will be required during each license renewal period(it is not a one-time requirement). |
