CAMFT's Strategic Plan

The following are the Goals and Objectives proposed to the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists Board of Directors to be adopted and implemented in the upcoming years. These Goals and Objectives were revised for 2007 -2008 by the following members of the Strategic Planning Committee:

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES ASSOCIATION

Statement of Purpose
CAMFT is an independent statewide professional organization representing the interests of California licensed and prelicensed marriage and family therapists. It is dedicated to advancing the profession as an art and a science, to maintaining high standards of professional ethics and qualifications, and to expanding the recognition and utilization of the profession.

Vision

Through leadership, education, and advocacy, the Association and its members strive to be exemplary professional resources for mental health professionals and people seeking their services.

Mission
The Association is dedicated to the advancement of the mental health profession by strengthening qualifications, and maintaining high standards of professional ethics and accountability, in order to enhance recognition and utilization of the profession.

Core Purpose
The Association promotes and advances the profession by anticipating and meeting the professional needs of its members.

Goals

Goal I
Professionalism

The Association will maintain and promote high standards of professionalism, competence, accountability, inclusiveness, and ethics.

Objectives:

  • The Association will develop and enforce ethical standards consistent with the evolving profession.
  • The Association will develop and advocate for legal standards consistent with the evolving profession.
  • The Association will create and administer certification programs and quality educational opportunities beneficial to the profession.
  • The Association will be an inclusive and accessible organization by proactively attracting and retaining diverse members and leadership.
  • The Association will be proactive, sensitive, and responsive to the needs of a diverse and changing population.
  • The Association will promote current professional research and best practices.

Goal II
Advocacy

The Association will advocate for the advancement of mental health professionals.

Objectives:

  • The Association will influence the future of the mental health profession.
  • The Association will seek parity for and increased utilization of its members in the public and private sectors.
  • The Association will coordinate and collaborate with other organizations for common purposes.
  • The Association will be involved in the legislative and regulatory process at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • The Association will encourage member participation in governmental and advocacy efforts that impact the profession.

Goal III
Public Relations and Marketing

The Association will be the definitive source of information regarding mental health issues and services.

Objectives:

  • The Association will increase public awareness that therapy works.
  • The Association will increase its recognizability and professional visibility through branding and other marketing.
  • The Association will provide, in a timely manner, current, thorough, and accurate information.
  • The Association will be a valued source of information for prospective practitioners.
  • The Association will increase its membership.

Goal IV
Leadership

The Association will be led and administered by exemplary, visionary, accountable, dedicated, and ethical individuals.

Objectives:

  • The Association staff and volunteer leadership will be held accountable to the Strategic Plan.
  • The Association will provide opportunities for training and development to staff and volunteer leadership.
  • The Association will recruit, retain, and provide for succession of staff and volunteer leadership.
  • The Association will create and implement policies and procedures to ensure an effective operation.
  • The Association will remain fiscally sound and technologically sophisticated.

EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
GOAL & OBJECTIVES

Scholarships and Research

The Educational Foundation will provide scholarships and grants to support education, research, and program development to enhance the mental health profession.

Objectives:

  • The Educational Foundation will provide scholarships for research to enhance the profession.
  • The Educational Foundation will provide scholarships for students pursuing California licensure.
  • The Educational Foundation will provide scholarships to increase cultural diversity in the profession.
  • The Educational Foundation will provide grants for program development in mental health.
