Dear Members,

As you know, CAMFT is committed to advocating for MFTs to be included as Medicare providers. This is CAMFT’s #1 federal priority and it would have a tremendous impact on MFTs in California and across the US. We have a standalone bill for both the House of Representatives (HR 3032) and the Senate (S 1879) that would add licensed Marriage and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors as independent Medicare Part B practitioners. In addition, our bill is currently added in its entirety to a comprehensive opioid bill, HR 5531.

August is a time when Congress takes a break and lobbying in DC slows down. However, Congressmembers typically return to their districts during this time. You may see your Representative or Senator at local events this month. If you do, please encourage them to sponsor HR 3032/HR 5531 or S 1879. Ask them to promise support of MFTs as Medicare Providers.

It’s easy to speak to a Congressmember—typically they will be respectful of constituents and it’s ok if you look at a note on your phone or a notecard for the number of the bills you are asking them to support. If you do make contact with a Congressmember, please let us know! Email me and Cathy Atkins (CAMFT’s Deputy Executive Director) and tell us with whom you spoke and how it went.

This is your chance to make a difference! Help CAMFT advocate on behalf of MFTs and let’s get MFTs included in Medicare!

Governor Jerry Brown Declared a State of Emergency

Governor Jerry Brown declared a State of Emergency in Mariposa, Riverside, and Shasta counties as at least a dozen wildfires burn throughout the state.

For those of you living and working in the affected communities, CAMFT hopes that you, your colleagues, and loved ones are all safe.

The loss and devastation following a natural disaster can linger in the community long after the crisis itself has passed. Please click here for helpful resource materials compiled by CAMFT’s Crisis Response Education & Resources Committee (CRERC) to reference while helping those in need deal with the mental and emotional aftershocks of wildfires.
