Luis Resendez, LMFT


Luis Resendez is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and owner of Vida Emotional Wellness in Riverside, CA. Luis is also a speaker, adjunct professor at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA, and author of “What About Dad? Understanding and Addressing Postpartum Depression In Men.” In his clinical practice, Luis specializes in treating men’s mental health issues and trauma. Throughout his nearly 20-year career in mental health, Luis has also developed innovative treatment programs for community-based agencies in Los Angeles County including a gardening therapy program and a cognitive remediation therapy program for adults with psychotic or similar disorders.

Workshop Description:

Emerging research and evidence is concluding that many fathers of newborn children also battle with a form of postpartum depression (PPD). In this presentation licensed therapist Luis Resendez shares his personal experience in dealing with postpartum depression after the birth of his first son which was the catalyst of his recently published book "What About Dad? Understanding and Addressing Postpartum Depression In Men.: The presentation will include information of how postpartum depression affects men, signs and symptoms of the disorder in men, and what could be done to address this as well as connecting new fathers with any support they may need.

 

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define postpartum depression (PPD) in men.
  • Identify at least two signs and symptoms of PPD in men.
  • List at least two ways that PPD impacts fathers and their families.
  • Name at least one resource and support available to fathers with PPD.
