CLINICAL EDITORIAL COMMITTEE

PURPOSE:
The Clinical Editorial Council is committed to helping The Therapist (1) create an editorial calendar, (2) identify and proofread highly relevant, well-researched clinical articles that represent different theoretical orientations and specialties, and (3) contribute to the production of a high-quality publication that meets the needs of the psychotherapy community. 

CRITERIA FOR INCLUSION ON CLINICAL EDITORIAL COUNCIL:
Editorial and/or writing experience, knowledge of current psychotherapy practices and trends, knowledge of APA writing style, and a current member of CAMFT, in good standing, throughout duration of term.

CLINICAL EDITORIAL COUNCIL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Members of the Clinical Editorial Council contribute to The Therapist in the following ways:

  1. Determine the topics for the editorial calendar for six issues.
  2. Determine whether the content of a manuscript is consistent with the purpose of the publication.
  3. Review submitted manuscripts for accuracy and completeness of content and return to editor by the due date. Each manuscript is a confidential document and cannot be discussed prior to publication.
  4. Notify editor and return manuscript if unable to meet the deadline.
  5. Identify text that might be reorganized, expanded, or condensed.
  6. Assess the originality of concepts and the appropriateness and timeliness of the subject matter
  7. Comment specifically on the relevance, appeal, and readability of articles.
  8. For research manuscripts, assess the quality of research design and methodology, and determines the validity of interpretations and conclusions.
  9. Offer constructive criticism, comments, and suggestions for the Editor to review and send to the author.
  10. Identify potential authors.
  11. Participate in establishing content priorities for the journal.
  12. Be available for conference calls and attend up to one in-person meeting per year.

COMPOSITION AND APPOINTMENT OF THE CLINICAL EDITORIAL COUNCIL:
Clinical Editorial Council appointments come from a variety of sources, including the editors, current Clinical Editorial Council members, and CAMFT members.

A diverse Council representing a mix of clinical settings, theoretical orientations, and specialties is valued in meeting the mission of the publication.  Attention will be also be given to ensure representation from a variety of cultures and geographic regions within California.  A sub-Council will review applications for the Clinical Editorial Council and forward recommendations to the Board.

The CAMFT Clinical Editorial Council shall be comprised of no more than five CAMFT members, a majority of whom shall be Clinical members of CAMFT. The Chair of the Council is elected by the Clinical Editorial Council and will serve as the Co-Editor-In-Chief (along with the CAMFT Executive Director), for a term of one year. The Co-Editor-in-Chief will be knowledgeable about research validity and methodology.  

Clinical Editorial Council members are appointed by, and serve at the pleasure of, the CAMFT Board of Directors for a three-year term that is renewable for one additional three-year term.
