Porn Literacy 101
Friday | May 5, 2023
1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
(1.5 CEs)

Workshop Description:

In the 21st century, pornography is the lightning rod where sexuality, technology, and morality all collide. As a result, it is a confusing subject for most, including the mental health profession. There is and has been a profound erotophobia across our field for generations. Without critical thinking and additional training, therapists can default to sex-negative, pop culture-informed, or traditional gendered stereotypes about sex and pornography. In this course, attendees will get a primer on porn literacy - a modern way to conceptualize and relate to pornography without pathologizing or shaming. Attendees may find their previous assumptions challenged, and their biases identified.

Learning Objectives:

1. Compare four different elements regarding what pornography is and is not.
2. Name one element pornography is ambiguous about.
3. Describe what an erotic conflict is.
4. Describe what moral incongruence is.
