CALIFORNIA DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH COALITION (CDMHC) REPRESENTATIVE

PURPOSE/FUNCTION:
The mission of the California Disaster Mental Health Coalition is to improve disaster mental health services across professional disciplines in the field of disaster mental health; to partner with disaster mental health providers in the public and private sectors to help communities recover from crises and disasters; and for coalition members to mentor each other as well as other mental health providers interested in the dynamic field of disaster mental health. The CAMFT Staff Liaison also provides the staff support to maintain the CDMHC website.

MEETINGS:
The California Disaster Mental Health Coalition holds quarterly meetings. Two all day meetings are in-person in March (Southern CA/Orange County) and in September (Northern CA/San Jose) One to two meetings per year are via teleconference in January (and in June as needed). Barring unforeseen circumstances, CAMFT representatives to the CDMHC are required to attend all meetings. The CDMHC has some ongoing email communication when necessary. Note: CAMFT reimburses travel cost for CDMHC meetings.

COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE:
The CAMFT representatives to the CDMHC shall be comprised of no less than three (3) voting members. Coalition representatives must be a current CAMFT member with Subject Matter Expertise in Disaster Mental Health and Crisis/Trauma response. Members must complete an application and state their personal vision for CAMFT/CDMHC partnership.

TERM:
Coalition members are appointed and serve with the approval of the Board of Directors for a two (2) year term. There is no limit on term renewals. Diversity in committee composition is desired, with representatives from both Northern and Southern CA preferred. The Chair of the CDMHC is rotated every two years between the professional organizations. CAMFT is currently the Chair of the CDMHC until January of 2022. It It is not anticipated that CAMFT will be called to Chair the CDMHC again until approximately 2028.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with CDMHC on Disaster Mental Health issues and projects on behalf of CAMFT
  • Keep the CAMFT staff liaison informed of CDMHC issues and projects - and obtain the Board's approval on input/projects when appropriate
  • Provide the minutes shortly after each meeting to the CAMFT staff liaison for inclusion in the Board report
  • Be available for follow-up questions by CAMFT staff Liaison and/or Board members
  • Provide website updates to the CAMFT staff liaison in a timely manner
  • Coalition members are required to sign: Committee Member Participation Agreement, Conflict of Interest Policy, Anti-Trust Compliance Policy, and Consent to Electronic Transmission.
