Purview Committee

Purpose/Function: 
The Purview Committee implements the Purview Policy, which guides decisions on whether social/public policy issues are within the range of operation or concern for the CAMFT Board of Directors.

Composition: 
The Purview Committee shall be comprised of five (5) members—one (1) current Board of Directors member and four (4) Clinical or Pre-Licensed members of the Association. Diversity in committee composition is desired.

Term: 
Committee members are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the CAMFT Board of Directors for a term of two (2) years, except for the Board member on the Committee, whose term shall be one (1) year. A member may serve as Chair for one (1) term.

Meetings: 
The Committee meets via tele/videoconference as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Committee will consider all issues brought before it. All requests for CAMFT to take a position on social/ public policy matters must come from a CAMFT member in good standing, a CAMFT chapter, a CAMFT Committee/Task Force, the CAMFT Board of Directors, or CAMFT staff and respond to the questions on the Proposal for Social Justice/Public Policy/Clinical Positions. Committee members are precluded from introducing issues to the Committee. Requests should be submitted to: president@camft.org.
  • Once an issue is presented to the Committee, it will conduct an analysis to determine whether the Association should pursue the issue, and shall make a recommendation to the Board of Directors with regards to the issue. In response to the Purview Committee’s recommendation, the Board may: 1) Request additional information from the Purview Committee and/or CAMFT staff and/or members 2) Accept some or all the Purview Committee’s recommendations 3) Decline to accept the Purview Committee’s recommendations
  • Committee members are required to sign: Committee Member Participation Agreement, Conflict of Interest Policy, Anti-Trust Compliance Policy, and Consent to Electronic Transmission
