KEEPING TRACK OF YOUR HOURS

CAMFT advises pre-licensees to have their supervisors sign Option 1 AND Option 2 forms.

When BBS experience requirements for LMFTs changed in 2016, the BBS granted pre-licensees the choice to continue to gain experience under the old guidelines, known as Option 2, until December 31, 2020. Until the end of 2020, pre-licensees may gain supervised hours of experience for licensure under Option 1 or Option 2. (Option 1 is the more streamlined method for accumulating hours. Those who choose to qualify for licensure under Option 2 are accumulating hours under a multitude of categories.) Applicants must qualify under EITHER Option 1 OR Option 2. There is no mixing and matching of hours between the two categories. Those who intend to qualify under Option 2 have to postmark their applications for licensure and examination no later than December 31, 2020.

Given that Option 2 will only be available to applicants until December of next year, CAMFT advises that those pre-licensees who are currently working toward licensure consider having their supervisors sign Experience Verification forms for Option 1 AND Option 2. Although the applications clearly state that the BBS will accept older forms which have already been signed in order to qualify under Option 1 or Option 2, it is possible that having older forms may result in unnecessary confusion and could even delay the Board’s determination of whether you have met the licensure and examination requirements. If you have further questions about the licensure and examination process, feel free to reach out to CAMFT’s legal staff at 858-292-2638.
