Shannon Hanrahan
Candidate Statement

Serving on the CAMFT Board of Directors has been one of the most meaningful experiences in my career thus far. And now with your support, I hope to take this experience even further. I am honored by the opportunity to run for the position of President-Elect of CAMFT to promote, protect, and advance the interests of MFTs.

MFTs strive to provide quality mental health care. Still, our contributions are often overlooked, whether it be through misconceptions or lack of public knowledge of the profession or qualifications required for licensure. As president-elect, my primary focus would be on improving brand awareness, continuing CAMFTs leadership role in advocating for progressive legislation, reimbursement reform commensurate with other licensed professionals, supporting licensing reform to ease the burden of entry into our field, and other legislative efforts to expand and protect our profession.

My involvement with CAMFT spans years, since joining as an intern and maintaining membership ever since. I spent several years on the Conference Committee, which has awarded me the opportunity to bring exceptional educational experiences to members. As a board and committee member, I have forged productive relationships with membership and CAMFT staff, which will be vital in building a better future for our profession.

Most recently I have served as Director at Large for the past 2 years and am proud of the magnitude of things we have accomplished collectively. While serving in this role I have had an opportunity to learn from the experiences and perspectives of fellow board members, had strong board leadership to role model, prioritized the creation and publishing of Social Policy Statements, ushered in a new Executive Director, and collaborated on our newest strategic plan. I look forward to continuing that collaborative effort with new and returning board members as we see the strategic plan realized.

Other relevant experience includes serving on 2 different boards, running my own business in addition to my psychology practice, being an adjunct professor, and clinical director of two treatment programs, overseeing licensure hours, and being a research coordinator for HIV Epidemiology. I also make time for philanthropic pursuits and a lifework balance that includes a great deal of travel and time for my 3 pups.

If chosen President-Elect I am confident that my passion for this profession, combined with my proven leadership skills, will guide our organization toward achieving its goals while also creating an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity among our members. I welcome and hope to have many more meaningful conversations with the membership. Please reach out with questions.

Thank you for your consideration.
