Candidate Statement

I am honored and excited to have been nominated as a candidate for the Clinical Director-at-Large position. In preparing this statement, I reflected on my experiences as a CAMFT member. I joined as a student member in 2012. But it wasn’t until 2014 that I became more involved by attending a San Fernando Valley Chapter meeting. Shortly after, I began volunteering as a Table Host Coordinator. I still remember the warm welcome from the Chapter members. With encouragement from the Chapter Board Members, I ran for Vice President of Membership in 2015 & the rest is history.

2017 Chapter Member of the Year Award

CAMFT
Finance Committee - 2016

Annual Conference Speaker – May 2023
Certified Supervisor Program – in progress

In addition to an MA in Counseling Psychology, I hold an MBA. Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent over 15 years working for mental health insurance carriers. It was collaborating with the clinical team and advocating for the insurance members that prompted me to become a therapist. Currently, I work in private practice and am also a clinical supervisor at a non-profit in the Los Angeles area. Being a therapist is the best job I have ever had!

During the past 11 years, I have had the opportunity to connect with many of you, meet Board & Committee members, and CAMFT staff. Being a CAMFT member has been an integral part of my growth and success as a therapist. With that in mind, I would like to be of service to you, my colleagues, by representing you and advocating for our profession. I ask for your trust by asking for your vote.

As your representative on the Board of Directors, I will ensure that we are working to achieve the current strategic initiatives with a focus on the future of the profession, the legislative landscape, and the role of technology in our profession. I would welcome your feedback, comments & concerns, and ideas…your voice matters. You have my commitment to act with integrity and professionalism.

Thank you for taking the time to read my statement. Please feel free to contact me (laura@laurawestmoreland.com) with any questions you may have before casting your vote.

I do hope I have earned your vote.
