Possible Changes to Licensing Laws for LMFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs

At its August 2, 2019 meeting, the BBS Policy & Advocacy Committee recommended changes to the licensing laws for LMFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs, which will be reviewed by the BBS Board of Directors at its next meeting in September. The proposal includes changes to 1) the definitions of the various types of practice settings that licensees and applicants may be working in, 2) supervision of associates in private practice settings, and 3) increase in the number of supervisees in private practice settings. The Committee also recommended for the Board to approve an increase in Board fees and changes to the continuing education regulations. If the Board approves the Committee’s recommendations, the changes will be introduced as 2020 legislation. The Committee also reviewed proposed changes to the subsequent registration, clinical exam limits, and continuing education for registered associates, and recommended convening the Exam and Licensing Committee to engage in further discussions (possibly in 2020).
