What do CAMFT chapters do for their Pre-Licensed members?

1. How to better meet the needs of your existing and prospective Pre-Licensed chapter members.

CAMFT did a survey of our Pre-Licensed members in 2021. Click here for some of the highlights. The reason why this data is relevant for your chapter is because it identifies member benefits and programs that Pre-Licensees need, but are not aware are offered by your chapter. This data can be used to help craft membership recruitment messaging to better promote your chapter; but can also identify new programs to be offered.

Requirements: Pre-Licensed hours

How should Pre-Licensees count their workshop hours fowards the 3,000 hours?

Chapter Workshop Hours: Pre-licensees can count workshop hours that they attend toward licensure (toward their 3,000 hours) if the supervisor preapproves the workshop. The workshops can be offered by any entity, and does not have to be for continuing education credits (eg. can be their employer training, Chapter training, etc.) It is recommended that the pre-licensees obtain some type of letter or certificate that confirms their attendance/length of workshop (see NOTE below).

CONTINUING EDUCATION IN LAW & ETHICS FOR REGISTERED ASSOCIATES
Effective January 1, 2023, the BBS will require registered associates to complete a minimum of three (3) hours of CE on law and ethics during each registered associate's renewal period (annually) regardless of whether they have passed the California Law & Ethics exam. Visit the On-Demand Library to get access to law and ethics workshops presented by CAMFT’s expert attorneys!

Telehealth Training
Applicants for licensure and current licensees renewing on or after July 1, 2023 are required to complete three (3) hours of training or coursework in the provision of mental health services via telehealth. See the BBS FAQs for more information. Check out CAMFT’s workshop, Key Legal and Ethical Issues in Telehealth which will meet this requirement.

Suicide Training Workshops: Effective January 1, 2021, the BBS began requiring both applicants for licensure and renewing licensees to complete a minimum of six hours of coursework or applied experience under supervision in suicide risk assessment and intervention. The requirement can be met by taking a continuing education course from a CE approved provider (i.e. Chapter) and obtain a certification of completion.
