Description:
Social media is an ever-evolving force in the lives of clients across all ages—especially adolescents and young adults. While often framed as a threat to mental health, the relationship is far more nuanced. This session explores both the risks and potential benefits of social media engagement, offering clinicians an evidence-informed perspective to guide therapeutic conversations.
We’ll examine the latest research on social media’s impact on anxiety, depression, body image, and loneliness, alongside studies highlighting its role in identity exploration, peer connection, and support for marginalized communities. Clinicians will gain practical tools to assess clients’ social media use, understand its psychological function, and intervene with individualized strategies that go beyond simple screen time limits.
