Healing Modern Detachment Syndrome: A Somatic and Depth-Orinted Approach Using the RIFRA Method

Friday | May 1, 2026
8:00 am - 9:30 am
(1.5 CEs)

Description:

This workshop introduces the RIFRA Method, a five-phase integrative framework designed to help therapists support clients experiencing what the presenter calls “Modern Detachment Syndrome” — a trauma-rooted pattern of emotional shutdown, over functioning, and disembodiment. Blending somatic, psychodynamic, and narrative approaches, the RIFRA method guides clients to reconnect with their bodies, reframe inherited beliefs, and take empowered action. Participants will gain practical tools and an embodied understanding of how to facilitate trauma healing in high-functioning clients who feel stuck in old emotional patterns.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the clinical presentation of “Modern Detachment Syndrome” and its relationship to complex and developmental trauma.
  • Identify the five core phases of the RIFRA method (Reconnect, Identify, Feel, Reframe, Act) and explain how each phase supports trauma resolution.
  • Demonstrate at least one somatic intervention and one narrative practice from the RIFRA method to use in session with trauma-impacted clients.
  • Evaluate how cultural, systemic, and attachment-based disconnection contributes to emotional shutdown, and apply a RIFRA-informed lens to treatment planning.
