Anthony Owliaie

Anthony Owliaie, LMFT

Anthony Owliaie is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, and individuals in various therapeutic settings. He is also a writer, performer, and public speaker who has implemented all of his skills to help others throughout his career. Anthony is grateful for his multi-racial and multicultural heritage, having grown up raised by a Mexican-American mother and father who immigrated from Iran in the mid-1970s. Through this upbringing, he believes he developed a rich passion and appreciation for embracing diversity in the world, specifically through his work with others. Anthony believes the more we try to understand each other, the more we can grow together and love one another. And through his work, he has attempted to exemplify that notion throughout his career. He's extremely happy to be here with you all today.

Workshop Description:

Anthony Owliaie explains the tool and concept he developed from working over 15 years in mentalhealth with children, families and individuals, called The Family Communication Life Cycle. He identifiesthe four stages of communication between a parent and child throughout the life span of theparent/child relationship. He describes how the parent and child evolve together through each stage ofcommunication or struggle becoming "stuck" in a specific stage causing a fracture in the relationship.Yet, when acknowledged properly individuals develop greater insight, empathy and are able tocommunicate and maintain a healthy and fulfilling relationship throughout their life.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify the four stages of communication that are in The Family Communication Life Cycle.
  2. Participants will be able to explain the difference between the parent being the “driver” of the relationship and vice versa.
  3. Participants will be able to explain the difference between the relationship being “stuck” in a stage and having “fluidity.”
  4. Participants will be able to identify how the parent experiences the four stages of communication in reverse.
