Join CAMFT members from across California for a day of advocacy, education, and connection at the State Capitol. Advocacy Day provides MFTs with an opportunity to learn about issues affecting the profession, strengthen their advocacy skills, and engage directly with state legislators and their staff.

Time: 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Cost: $45.00

Registration includes the Advocacy Day program and training, lunch, scheduled legislative visits, and the Capitol group photo.
 

What to Expect

Advocacy Day will begin with an in-person program designed to prepare participants for their legislative visits. CAMFT staff and our state advocacy team will provide an overview of priority legislation, key talking points, and guidance for effectively communicating with legislators and their staff.

Participants will also have time to connect with their assigned advocacy groups, review materials, ask questions, and prepare for their legislative meetings.

Following the morning program and lunch, attendees will travel together to the Capitol for a group photo before beginning scheduled legislative visits.

Legislative Visits

CAMFT will coordinate legislative visits on behalf of registered attendees. Participants will meet in small groups with legislators and/or legislative staff to discuss issues affecting MFTs and the communities they serve.

While CAMFT will make every effort to schedule meaningful meetings based on participants’ legislative districts, legislative schedules can change with little notice. Meetings may be held with legislators or legislative staff.

CAMFT will provide your meeting schedule and advocacy materials prior to Advocacy Day.

Prepare for Advocacy Day

To help participants arrive informed and prepared, CAMFT will provide both an informational recording and a live pre-event webinar.  

Advocacy Day Informational Recording

A recorded presentation will provide an overview of important day-of-logistics, including:

  • What to expect throughout the day
  • What to wear and bring
  • Legislative meeting etiquette
  • Capitol logistics
  • Frequently asked questions

The recording will be shared with registered attendees closer to Advocacy Day and will be available to view on demand.

Live Advocacy Training Webinar

CAMFT will host a live webinar prior to Advocacy Day focused on the legislative issues participants will discuss during their meetings. You will find the link to join the webinar in your registration confirmation email.

CAMFT staff and our state lobbyists, Political Solutions, will review relevant bills, provide key talking points, and offer guidance on effectively communicating with lawmakers and their staff. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions and prepare for their legislative visits.

General Logistics

Dress Code: Business or business-casual attire is recommended. Attendees should wear comfortable shoes, as the day will include walking between the event location, the Capitol, and legislative offices.

We also recommend checking the weather forecast in advance and dressing accordingly, as portions of the day may be spent outdoors.

Luggage: Attendees checking out of the hotel on May 4, 2027, may leave their luggage with the Hyatt Regency’s bag check service or store it in the designated conference space at the California Chamber of Commerce during the event.

Additional day-of information will be provided to registered attendees prior to Advocacy Day.

What to Bring

Electronic Devices: Phones, cameras, and other electronic devices may be permitted in the Capitol subject to applicable security requirements and restrictions.

Photo ID: Attendees must bring a government-issued photo ID to enter California Chamber of Commerce and the State Capitol.

Advocacy Materials: CAMFT will provide the materials and information needed for legislative visits.

Please plan to travel light, as attendees will be walking between locations throughout the afternoon. CAMFT will provide a bag to hold your materials, a small notebook, a pen, and a small bottle of water. Capitol Security

All attendees should be prepared to comply with applicable Capitol security procedures and restrictions.

Weapons and other prohibited items are not permitted. Attendees should review current Capitol security requirements prior to the event, as policies and restrictions may change.

Additional security information will be provided to attendees as Advocacy Day approaches.
