Gavrila Abramson

Gavrila is a long-time mindfulness practitioner and educator. As a guiding member of the first-ever Dedicated Practitioners Program in Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness with David Treleaven, Gavrila co-facilitated global community engagement sessions and continues to build and facilitate trauma-sensitive mindfulness offerings both independently and in collaboration with organizations that enhance belonging, connection, and care. She is a co-founder of the Trauma Aware Mindfulness Collective supporting the growing trauma-sensitive community. Gavrila received her Master's in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis on Somatic Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies and is now pursuing licensure. She is part of the growing Relational Somatic Healing community, bringing touch into psychotherapy as means to healing developmental trauma. Gavrila is a proponent and active participant in bringing mindfulness into therapy and is dedicated to teaching psychotherapists how to do so in a trauma-sensitive way.

 

Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness for Therapists

Workshop Description:

While mindfulness has the capacity to greatly reduce suffering, it can instead be distressingand dysregulating when practiced without a sensitivity to trauma. Trauma-sensitivemindfulness, a framework skillfully organized by David Treleaven, offers an inherentlycompassionate mindfulness map that cultivates choice, agency, empowerment, and regulation.This workshop highlights key considerations and techniques that support trauma-sensitivemindfulness practice in therapy and beyond. It invites attendees to examine the roles of safety,social context, power, language, and shame in practicing and supporting the cultivation ofmindfulness in therapy.


Learning Objectives:

Attendees will:

  • Explain the difference between mindfulness and trauma-sensitive mindfulness
  • Identify at least 3 key elements that support trauma-sensitive mindfulness practice
  • Learn at least 3 practices to offer clients that are trauma-sensitive and person-centered
  • Learn the foundational measuring tool to use to support trauma-sensitivity in therapy
