Committed to maximizing results and growing initiatives, Mariama Boney, LMSW, CAE, is an educational administrator, association executive, facilitator, and consultant, serving in four associations, five colleges/universities, and three non-profits over 20 years. As the President and CEO of Achieve More, LLC, a small women and minority-owned business she enjoys focusing on maximizing the talents of others to expand organizational possibilities. Mariama has served in several volunteer and leadership roles for ASAE, other associations, non-profits, and alumni groups. Originally from Syracuse, New York, Mariama obtained her B.S. and M.S. degree in Social Work from Syracuse University. She is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and a Licensed Social Worker in Virginia and Maryland. Mariama is the author of the VENT series, the latest of which is VENT - Our Resilience Is Enough.

"Words Have Power: Halting Microaggressions"

Description:

Do you desire to maximize the connection with your clients and colleagues? What happens when an overt or unconscious slight occurs? This session will explore the impact of microaggressions advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. In this session we will build upon the dynamics of our words and how to enhance transparent and authentic connections and discuss the need to value culture.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Name three types of microaggressions that occur in communication.
  2. Identify ten microaggressive behaviors and the missteps to avoid
  3. List six steps for action or recovery when a microaggression occurs.
  4. Learn five techniques to advance results for inclusive communication.
