Dr. Ofer Zur, PhDDr. Ofer Zur, PhD

Ofer Zur, PhD, lives in Sebastapol, CA and founded the Zur Institute 25 years ago. He is a licensed psychologist, instructor, and forensic and ethics consultant and expert. He is also a 1984 Wright Institute graduate.

Dr. Zur has authored or co-authored five books and over 50 published articles on ethics and related topics. His writing and teaching in the U.S. and abroad focus on ethics, critical thinking, boundaries, dual relationships, managed-care-free private practices, the psychology of victims, the psychology of war, and the psychology of gender.

Description:

In this 2-hour continuing education workshop, Ofer Zur, PhD, the founder of Zur Institute, will review current standards of care that all licensed marriage and family therapists need to maintain. Dr. Zur will outline 25 specific ways in which therapists need to pay close attention to their practice in order to avoid board complaints or civil lawsuits and keep their licenses. Dr. Zur will also briefly attend to the some of the complex issues related to therapists engaging with clients via texting and social media and some of the main ethical considerations arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and telemental health.

  • Differentiate between ethical, legal, clinical, and risk management aspects of cases.
  • Identify the three most common complaints of state licensing boards filed against licensed psychotherapists and counselors.
  • Identify three common ethical challenges for telemental health practices.
  • List at least three ethical considerations and challenges for mental health professionals arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
