CE Hours: 2
Description:

Codependency is a 40-year old pop-culture concept. It's what we know. Yet neither codependency nor codependence have ever been a formalized, research or criteria-based Diagnosis (not in the DSM or the IDCM). With over 375 books with the word codependency in the title, which is the right one? Moving forward with today's attachment focused, strength based treatments, do the goals, intentions and process of this work still apply? This thought-provoking talk by Dr. Rob Weiss, treatment specialist/author and speaker asks attendees to question old assumptions and consider new ideas to ensure that our work remains strength based and deeply compassionate.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will be able to compare and contrast codependence to attachment based treatment to consider its usefulness
  • Attendees will develop new skills to intervene on loved ones of addicts
  • Attendees will learn how to differentiate a trauma based treatment model from an attachment based model
  • Attendees will learn new language toward more effective assessment and evaluation of loved ones of the addicted.
