Starting your career as a pre-licensed therapist can be exciting, but figuring out what it means to be an employee and boundaries to your practice in the lead-up to full licensure can be confusing. This one-hour course is designed to build confidence in pre-licensees by unpacking BBS employment requirements, providing a brief overview of California’s employment requirements, and explaining some of the legal and ethical limits on practice. Attendees will build confidence to know what questions to ask current and future employers and supervisors throughout their path toward licensure.

  • Identify BBS requirements governing employment, supervision, and work settings for California pre-licensed therapists.
  • Differentiate between lawful and unlawful employment arrangements, including understanding the difference between the W-2 and independent contractor (1099) classifications.
  • Recognize common employment pitfalls pre-licensees might face and steps pre-licensees can take to protect their rights.
