CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT ELECT

Lisa Romain, PhD, LMFT

As current CAMFT Board Secretary, it will be an honor to serve as Board President-Elect for the 2021-2022 term. My passion for quality mental health services, equity, diversity and inclusion, legitimacy of the profession, professional and leadership development and legislation efforts that keep the MFT profession moving forward, will continue as board President-Elect. I am actively involved with CAMFT and serve on the Executive Committee, Social Policy Committee, CAMFT Connects Committee and the 2021 Annual Conference and Continuing Education Committee. Furthermore, I stay involved in CAMFT chapter activities, and served as Newsletter Editor, and Continuing Education Coordinator for SWRC-CAMFT.

My three and half years of Board service has allowed first hand knowledge of important issues facing the MFT profession and the timeliness of updating the membership on critical concerns. As President-Elect, my goal is communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking, dependability, resourcefulness and emotional intelligence. My vision for CAMFT is commitment to strengthening the MFT profession, premiere mental health services, advocacy, innovation, and a lens of equity, diversity and inclusion in all that we do as a CAMFT Board.

As a clinician, organizational psychologist, educator and entrepreneur, skills in diplomacy, communication, addressing relevant CAMFT membership concerns, risk-taking and working with collegial teams on issues paramount to the MFT profession and clients we serve, will serve as a catalyst for innovation, intentional dialogue and continue to assist the CAMFT board in visioneering, strategic planning, and moving the profession forward. As a dedicated professional and “voice,” for mental health and well-being, I will continue to bring an awareness of and sensitivity to relevant MFT issues and how CAMFT can continue to develop leaders of the future and serve as leaders of change.

With higher education expertise in leadership, counseling, teaching, training, writing and supervision, I will continue to assist the board in leadership development, training, diversity and inclusion endeavors. Skills in consulting, advocacy and community involvement in leadership positions such as; CAMFT: Pre-Licensed Board Director-At-Large, CIR: Center for Innovation and Resources, INC.: Regional Diversity Leader, CALPCC: Regional Coordinator – Inland Empire, CALPCC: Ethics Committee, CADVOC: California Association for Domestic Violence – Orange County - Vice President, and The Center for Life Change - Board Member, will continue to assist the CAMFT board in addressing legislative concerns regarding “license portability,” “Medi-Care,” and other critical issues facing MFT professionals, clients and the MFT profession.

The vision of innovation, leaders of change in mental health, advocacy to enhance the profession, greater alliances with the BBS, professional legitimacy and awareness of and sensitivity to equity, inclusion and diversity, are goals aligned with CAMFT’s mission, core values and my skills of collegiality, team building, diplomacy, preserving the profession, and strengthening relationships. I look forward to serving as the CAMFT Board President-Elect for the 2021-2022 term and to continued service in moving the MFT profession forward one marriage, one family and one profession at a time.
