CAMFT Shares Concerns Following the Capitol Riots

California Therapists Issue Public Statement and Send Letter of Concern to Lawmakers.

San Diego, CA -- In response to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, CAMFT issued a statement to condemn the actions of rioters and wrote a letter to impacted congressional leaders to offer mental health education and support.

On January 7, 2021, CAMFT published this statement on all social media outlets and our website:

CAMFT is deeply disheartened by the attack on our nation’s Capitol yesterday, which further stoked anxiety and fear, and highlighted inequities in the treatment of rioters and protesters of different races. We stand with those who protect our democracy and advocate for social justice. Just societies are mentally healthy societies.

The following day, CAMFT reached out to all California congressional leaders, House and Senate leaders, and sponsors of CAMFT’s Medi-Care legislation to educate about the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and provide support resources.  Executive Director Nabil El-Ghoroury, PhD, CAE, sent the following letter on CAMFT's behalf:
