December 2019 E-NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,

What an amazing year 2019 has been! Thank you to all of our volunteers, Chapter leaders, and members for making this year possible—we accomplished so much! I’d especially like to recognize the work of the Ethics Committee, who spent four years revising the Ethics Code, which will be presented to the Board for final approval at the December meeting.

For 2020, CAMFT is undertaking an ambitious step: revisiting the Bylaws. As many of you know, the last time CAMFT attempted Bylaws revisions, members ultimately voted against the changes. The Board and CAMFT staff reflected on this experience and how CAMFT can improve this process. The Board provided clear guidance that members be fully informed of the Bylaws changes each step of the way.

CAMFT is engaging in a transparent process, providing members with multiple opportunities to learn about and ask questions about the Bylaws changes:

  • Throughout 2018 and 2019, the Bylaws Committee reviewed the hundreds of potential changes identified in the Bylaws and prioritized the top 7 themes that need to be addressed first
  • During the September 2019 Board meeting, the Board approved these seven changes for member vote. This is communicated in the September 2019 Board Highlights
  • These proposed changes are being communicated to members through the following means:
    • Published in The Therapist (with changes to the current Bylaws marked by redline)
    • Hosted on the CAMFT Website
    • Two LIVE Events: Open forums will be held in which members can obtain information and discuss proposed Bylaws changes LIVE:
      • Southern California LIVE Event – January 10th in Newport Beach
      • Northern California LIVE Event – January 18th in the Bay Area
    • One LIVE Webinar, date to be determined in January or early February 2020
    • Multiple EBLASTS, Newsletters, and Social Media Posts

I encourage members to participate in this open and fully transparent process, and attend our live events and webinar, to learn more and ask questions directly of CAMFT leadership.

As we enter 2020, I’m inspired by the Board’s vision to embark on improving this important foundational aspect of the organization. I look forward to working with members to realize the vision of the Board.

Regards,
Nabil El-Ghoroury, Ph.D., Executive Director
