The BBS made several changes to the continuing education (CE) regulations which went into effect July 1st, 2023. Notably, changes were made to the CE requirements for the initial license renewal period. The new regulations now require 36 hours of CE, rather than 18 hours of CE during a licensee’s initial renewal period. Previously, the initial renewal period (the time frame between license issuance and expiration date) for newly licensees varied and could be as short as one-year. Going forward, the initial renewal period will be two years for all licensees, which should provide adequate time to complete 36 hours. This change applies to all new licensees whose initial license expires after July 1, 2023 and those who are renewing their license for the first time on or after July 1, 2023.
