Board Highlights December 2025

The following notes highlight discussion and action from the CAMFT Board of Directors meeting, December 7-8, 2025, in Berkeley, CA.

Chapter to Chapter Reception:
The CAMFT Board invited Board and local chapter leadership and members from the East Bay, Marin County, San Francisco, Santa Clara Valley, and Santa Cruz County chapters to an informal reception.  The reception was well attended.  These gatherings allow greater interaction from members at the local level with the CAMFT Board.

Financial Report:
The Board reviewed CAMFT’s financial statements through October 2025, including balances, revenue and expense variations, and investments. The financial report was approved. The Board reviewed and approved CAMFT’s 2026 budget.

Chapters
The Board discussed offering Chapters greater flexibility, including board variances and bylaws, while maintaining guardrails to ensure necessary experience and dedication to the mission.  They also discussed and extended the annual Chapter stipend.

Bylaw Discussion
Outside counsel and staff facilitated discussion of the Bylaw’s Committee’s proposed bylaws amendments. The bylaw’s package was approved by the Board. The proposed bylaws amendments will be presented to CAMFT membership for a vote.

Code of Ethics
The Board discussed the proposed amendments by the Ethics Committee to CAMFT’s Code of Ethics, incorporating language regarding AI and Technology.  The Board approved the proposed update to CAMFT’s Code of Ethics.

Strategic Plan Update:
The Board received an update on CAMFT’s strategic priorities including DEI as foundation, professional success, technological integration, and advocacy awareness. CAMFT’s magazine, The Therapist, will be offered via a new, enhanced digital format only, effective 2026. The new format allows for greater connection to relevant content and provides a streamlined process for earning CE credits.  More information about the transition can be found here

CAMFT also approved using ‘LMFT’ versus ‘MFT’ for branding, as the organization pursues the testing of proposed taglines for marketing to the therapy-seeking public.

An update was provided regarding a planned transition from the BBS MFT Exam to the National AMFTRB Exam. At the earliest, the national exam will be effective January 2027, or after, depending on the progress of key regulatory implementation activities. More information will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.

Certified Supervisor Program:
The Board approved a requirement that consultants for certified supervisors to be either CAMFT certified or AAMFT approved supervisors.

The next Board meeting will be held March 7-8th, 2026, in Newport Beach, CA.
