ETHICS COMMITTEE

PURPOSE/FUNCTION:
To ensure adherence with the CAMFT Code of Ethics, assist members in navigating the ethical considerations that arise in the practice of marriage and family therapy, and to support members through educational efforts and endeavors.

COMPOSITION:
The Ethics Committee shall be comprised of not less than five (5) nor more than seven (7) members, all of whom shall be clinical members of the association for at least two (2) years prior to appointment. The committee shall not include any member of the Board of Directors. Diversity in committee composition is desired.

TERM:
Committee members are appointed by, and serve at the pleasure of, the CAMFT Board of Directors for a two (2) year term. No member shall serve more than four (4) terms.

MEETINGS:
The Committee will meet in person four (4) times per year (once per quarter) and additionally via electronic means when necessary and/or appropriate. The Committee will communicate via email on an on-going basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and review the Code of Ethics of the association
  • Interpret the Code of Ethics to the membership and the public
  • Conduct investigations of alleged ethics violations ? Make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding members alleged to have violated the Code of Ethics
  • Make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding acceptance or rejection of prospective members who may have violated CAMFT's Code of Ethics
  • From time to time propose revisions, deletions and additions to the Code of Ethics to the Board of Directors for its approval
  • Committee members are required to sign: Committee Member Participation Agreement, Conflict of Interest Policy, Anti-Trust Compliance Policy, and Consent to Electronic Transmission
