APRIL 2023 E-NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,

This month’s newsletter is bursting with updates and opportunities to connect and grow.

CAMFT's Annual Conference is right around the corner on May 5th and 6th. You definitely don't want to miss out! Our extraordinary lineup of keynote speakers and breakout sessions will provide valuable insights and networking opportunities. Can't make it for the entire conference? On May 5th, our Annual Membership Meeting and PAC Reception are open to non-registered attendees. This is your chance to join us and be part of our incredible community!

CAMFT is also asking members for greater input on our strategic direction around license portability and the MFT Exam. Please complete our License Portability Survey to help identify:

  • Member interest in CAMFT advocating for license portability, and/or
  • Member interest in CAMFT advocating for California to adopt the MFT National Exam.

For those who are not familiar with the nuances of license portability or the national exam, please read CAMFT’s FAQ article on License Portability and the National Exam and consider watching our Licensure Portability Considerations webinar before taking the survey. This is an anonymous survey which should only take 10 minutes, and your participation and input are very important to us. Please click here for the survey and respond by April 20, 2023.

Finally, CAMFT has become aware of a concerning piece of legislation, SB 766, that would prohibit MFTs (including aspiring MFTs) from working in a job position if the title of the position includes the words “social worker” anywhere within the title. We are aware of hundreds, if not thousands, of MFTs that this bill could negatively impact, and we are looking to our membership to get a better assessment of how harmful this impact would be to both providers and patients. While CAMFT is working to amend this bill to protect our providers and their patients, we need to hear from you urgently in case a compromise is not agreed upon.

If you have (or previously had) a position (either paid or unpaid) wherein your title has the words “social worker” within it, please take this quick MFTs with Social Worker Title survey to help us best navigate our next steps on this piece of legislation.

We are a vibrant organization, and as such, we appreciate your voice in these important matters for the profession. For those who are able to complete the two surveys, we thank you in advance for your time and insight.

Hope to see many of you at the Annual Conference!
