DECEMBER 2021 E-NEWSLETTER

Dear Members:

I begin this month’s message sharing my hope that you and your loved ones are well.

2021, while providing some relief from the upheaval of 2020, continued to bring us many changes, transitions, wins, losses and unknowns.  Ultimately, though, as I speak to CAMFT members and reflect with CAMFT’s Board of Directors and staff, I see this year has brought important growth and deeper connections that will carry us forward.

I feel hopeful and optimistic when I learn about the amazing and transforming work being done by MFTs to help people continue to navigate these unprecedented times. The importance and value of mental health, and the mental health provider, has been highlighted and increasingly elevated in the minds and hearts of not only the consumer, but also the decision makers in Sacramento and Washington D.C.

CAMFT has continued to support our members and advocate for the MFT profession.  We have experienced some undeniable victories despite the hardships. The updated Scope of Practice legislation that CAMFT has advocated for over many years was passed into law. Our Social Policy Task Force came together to provide statements on diversity, inclusion, and social justice. CAMFT held the Virtual Experience Annual Conference with hundreds of attendees hearing from world-renowned speakers on cutting edge topics relevant to current issues. Just a few weeks ago, we were thrilled to be able to offer our first in-person event in two years!

I look forward to 2022 bringing more opportunities for in-person connections, continued gains in advocacy, greater public appreciation and understanding for the work MFTs do every day, and most of all stability for us all. No matter what 2022 throws our way, I know we will meet the challenges and accomplish great things together.

As we close out the year, there is always something to be grateful for as we look to the past, and always something to hope for as we embark on the future. In our current transition of leadership, we are grateful for the lasting impacts led by our previous Executive Director Nabil El-Ghoroury, and we look forward to continuing the powerful and gratifying work of supporting MFTs and you—our members.

Wishing everyone rest, renewal, positive changes and hope for 2022 and many more years to come,
