CALIFORNIA AG STATEMENT REGARDING NONCOMPETE AGREEMENTS

Multiple members have reached out to CAMFT recently with questions regarding the legality of noncompete clauses in employment policies and agreements. Members who are navigating this issue may wish to review Attorney General Rob Bonta's statement highlighting California law's approach to noncompete agreements. The statement provides, in relevant part: "California law prohibits employers, including those who operate out of state but employ California residents, from enforcing noncompete agreements."

If you have questions regarding the legality of noncompete agreements in California, we recommend that you consult with an attorney specializing in labor and employment law. You may be able to obtain referrals to such attorneys by reaching out to your local county bar association.
