CAMFT has been receiving calls from several members who were surprised to find that they were unable to renew their license, or their license was not listed as ‘renewed’ after they sent in their renewal paperwork, because they had not yet submitted their fingerprints via Live Scan (inkless, electronic fingerprinting) to the BBS.
In 2009, the BBS began requiring licensees and registrants who did not previously submit Live Scan fingerprints to the BBS to complete Live Scan fingerprinting by their next renewal date on or after October 31, 2009. The BBS is identifying many licenses that have not met this requirement, causing issues with license renewals. Licensees should check their records to ensure this Live Scan requirement has been met.
For more information on fingerprinting, visit the BBS’s website at: Fingerprint FAQs - Board of Behavioral Sciences (ca.gov).
