Rebecca Hines 2023-2024 Board Candidate

Rebecca Hines
Candidate Statement

Pre-Licensed colleagues and friends:

Thank you for taking the time to read this statement. My name is Rebecca Hines, and I am currently the CAMFT Pre-Licensed Director at Large. I was elected to this position in 2020 and have decided to run for a second term. I am also a recent graduate of Pepperdine University, where I received my M.A. in Clinical Psychology (MFT emphasis) last June.

In the last two years, I've had the privilege of meeting many of you, my fellow pre-licensees. And not surprisingly, many of you have asked me, "what exactly does the Pre-Licensed Director do?”  It is my job to represent you on the CMFT board and advocate for the things that are most important to you.  Did you know that there are approximately 10,000 of us?  That's 1/3 of CAMFT’s membership.  On your behalf, I have supported full voting rights, the right to hold board positions in your local chapters, paid positions for Associates, and initiatives that make the licensure process more straightforward and accessible to everyone.

In my role, I also chair the Pre-Licensed Committee, a small group of volunteers who donate time each month to work on projects for our important group.  Last year, we surveyed you to understand what CAMFT could be doing to help you on your journey. One of the things you most wanted was a newsletter specifically for pre-licensed members. I'm happy to report that our first issue is coming out soon. Each quarter, we will share important information, provide help and tips, and answer whatever questions you have, whether you're still in the classroom, in a trainee role, or working as an Associate. I am hopeful that our newsletter will become a trusted resource for you as you work through the complex and sometimes complicated path to becoming a licensed MFT.

I also believe it is important that mental health consumers understand who MFTs are, what we do, and why we are unique so that we don’t get lost in the “alphabet soup" of acronyms when individuals seek our services. Before returning to school, I worked in advertising and held leadership positions at several large ad agencies. During my time on the board, I have utilized my advertising and marketing experience to help CAMFT support and advance the MFT profession. I will continue to do so as the organization embarks on a new marketing campaign.

Finally, if reelected, I would like to hear more from you. What are your issues? What are your questions? How can CAMFT help? For the last two years, I have been honored to work on your behalf, and I hope you will let me represent you once again on the CAMFT board.

Thank you.
