Board Highlights December 2023

The following notes highlight discussion and action from CAMFT Board of Directors meeting, and reception held December 1 – 3, 2023 in Indian Wells, CA.

Chapter to Chapter Reception:
The CAMFT Board invited Board and local members of the Desert, San Diego North County, Inland Empire, and Southwest Riverside chapters to an informal reception.  The reception was preceded by a Law and Ethics workshop, which allowed workshop attendees to also network at the reception.  The gathering was well attended and provided an opportunity for CAMFT Board members to engage members at a local level.

Financial Report:
The Board reviewed financials for the current year through October 2023. CAMFT’s financial position is strong, with both operating net revenue and total non-operating net revenue exceeding budget. In November, CAMFT completed the sale of the Building Headquarters on Raytheon Road. Proceeds from the sale will be approximately $3M. CAMFT also purchased a new office space headquarters for $1.3M. The Board reviewed and approved the proposed 2024 budget per the Finance Committee’s recommendations.

Strategic Plan Update:
The Board received an update regarding DEI work, continued work on advocating for license portability and separately, efforts to educate the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on a successful path for enrolling eligible MFTs in Medicare. CAMFT has hired a marketing firm to execute its strategic marketing initiative to launch an advertising campaign to measurably improve the awareness of MFTs among a defined public population by the end of 2024.  An update was also provided regarding the review of technology, and potential impacts and opportunities for the profession.

Additional Discussion:
The Board was informed of the status of both the Bylaws Committee and CAMFT’s Social Policies Task Force performance thus far with respect to updating CAMFT’s governing documents.  The Bylaws revisions process is expected to take at least 2 years and will include opportunities for member input and engagement.

The next Board meeting will be held on March 1-3, 2024, in Sacramento, CA.
