RELIGIOUS TRAUMA RECOVERY TRAINING

Description:

In this 90-minute workshop, Jena Montenegro, LMFT, will discuss her own journey of religious trauma, as well as how religion can cause trauma through exploring the mechanisms that make up a rigid belief system, a brief history of religion, the beliefs and tenants that comprise this religion, and how to treat this type of trauma clinically. You will have a deeper understanding of power dynamics, attachment, and coercive control - which is the blueprint for domestic violence, human trafficking, and cults. You'll also gain an understanding of how to help your clients navigate these situations with the most effective modalities and strategies specifically for religious trauma.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify different types of power dynamics and gain knowledge of coercive control.
  • Identify 8 ways religious trauma shows up clinically and how to screen for it.
  • Have a basic understanding of religious trauma history and inner workings of cults as a system.
  • Explain the impact of being brought up in a rigid belief system on development both as a child and someone who reexperiences Erikson's stages of development as an adult.
