Jena Montenegro
Jena is the founder of the group practice Religious Trauma Recovery Center and has been studying and treating religious trauma for the past 7 years. She grew up as a Christian Nationalist and has 33 years of lived experience that informs her practice, podcast, and trainings. Jena achieved her BS in marketing and a MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lubbock Christian University. She also has certifications as Attachment Based Family Therapist level 2, Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician (NATC), and is EMDR trained.

In this 90-minute workshop, Jena Montenegro, LMFT, will discuss her own journey of religious trauma, as well as how religion can cause trauma through exploring the mechanisms that make up a rigid belief system, a brief history of religion, the beliefs and tenants that comprise this religion, and how to treat this type of trauma clinically. You will have a deeper understanding of power dynamics, attachment, and coercive control - which is the blueprint for domestic violence, human trafficking, and cults. You'll also gain an understanding of how to help your clients navigate these situations with the most effective modalities and strategies specifically for religious trauma.
