REQUEST FOR RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS - MFTs IN THE VA

Christian Dean, PhD, from Southern New Hampshire University, is conducting a study to explore and gather information related to how many professional counselors as well as marriage and family therapists (MFTs)

a) are Veterans;
b) have any form of current or past service in the U.S. Armed Forces and/or as civilian contractors or employees of the U.S. Armed Forces or the Department of Defense;
c) have interest in serving in the U.S. Armed Forces; and/or
d) have interest in working as a mental health professional civilian employee with one of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Department of Defense, or within the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Results will help with advocacy efforts to include counselors and MFTs as Behavioral Science Officers and/or as civilian mental health providers in the U.S. Armed Forces, Department of Defense, and the Veterans Administration.

To participate in this study, you

1. Must be a:

a) Mental Health Professional who identifies as a Professional Counselor (PCs). You may be a student, provisionally licensed (PLPC, LAC, etc.), or fully licensed as a Professional Counselor or Mental Health Counselor (i.e. LPC, LMHC, LCPC, LPCC, etc.). You may have graduated from a CACREP accredited counseling program or some other related counseling program.

AND/OR

b) Mental Health Professional who identifies as Marriage and Family Therapist (MFTs). You may be a student, provisionally licensed (PLMFT, LMFTA, etc.), or fully licensed as Marriage and Family Therapist or Counselor (i.e. LMFT, LMFC, etc.). You may have graduated from a COAMFTE accredited marriage and family therapy (MFT) program or some other related MFT program.

2. Must be 18 years of age or older.

3. Must be willing to complete a demographic questionnaire and survey (estimated to last between 10 – 20 minutes to complete).

Please note that participation is voluntary, and if you do begin participation in the study, you can terminate it at any time without consequence.

This proposal has been reviewed and approved by the Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) COCE IRB, which is a committee whose task it is to make sure that research participants are protected from harm.
