Chapters Welcomed Attendees at the Annual Conference in May 2025

10 Chapters welcomed attendees at the Annual Conference on May 2-3, 2025
Chapter hosts greeted participants at this year’s Annual Conference, held at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. They offered local recommendations for dining and entertainment, shared a variety of giveaways, and connected with potential members to highlight upcoming events and the many benefits of joining their local Chapter community.

Thank you to our hosts!
Friday: East Bay, Los Angeles, Sacramento Valley, Santa Barbara, and Santa Clara Valley Chapters
Saturday: Central Coast, Long Beach-South Bay, Marin County, San Diego North County, and San Fernando Valley Chapters

Plan ahead for next year
We will share the date and venue for the 2026 Annual Conference as soon as they are confirmed, so you can decide whether your Chapter prefers to host a table on either Friday or Saturday. Space may be limited.

Last reminder: CAMFT is planning an update to the Chapter Agreement

  • For the new leaders not too familiar with this document, it is the agreement between CAMFT and your Chapter
  • Your Chapter should have a signed copy from the previous update in 2020-2021. If you don’t have a copy, please let me know at mchampion@camft.org
  • Click here for a link to the clean/unsigned version of the 2020-2021 Agreement
  • Discuss as a Board any changes you would like to see and submit the suggestions/edits here, by June 30
  • Thank you for your time!

Celebrating our Chapters: Celebration of ALL Chapters at the 2026 CLC!

  • Due to popular demand, we will continue to celebrate ALL Chapters at the 2026 Chapter Leadership Conference rather than an award ceremony celebrating only the winners of specific categories
  • How will it work? Chapters will have the opportunity to BRIEFLY answer a few short questions, or write a few sentences about the topics offered
  • Time commitment? Minimal – a few minutes at the most per category. The submission format will be so that multiple board members per chapter may submit. Less time spent per board member!
  • Click here for more information
  • The deadline to submit is October 31, 2025
  • Excerpts will be posted in our newsletter and The Therapist magazine

Update: Non-members can have a CAMFT ID#. Where to verify CAMFT membership?

  • Any individual may create a record, in order to purchase products on our website
  • The record will be displayed in our database and will have a CAMFT ID # attached to it
  • Keep in mind that not everyone with a CAMFT ID #, is a current CAMFT member
  • Where can you verify that a person is a current CAMFT member?
  • Reminder: Only CAMFT members are eligible to become a Chapter member, so if anyone reaches out to your Chapter to join, please verify:
  • Their CAMFT membership status here
  • Their eligibility (according to your Bylaws they will need to meet specific criteria for a specific membership category)
  • If you are unable to verify their membership status, contact Michele at mchampion@camft.org

Treasurers/Secretaries/Chapter Admin

Tip: The Ins and Outs of Taking Effective Board Meeting Minutes

Tip: Start to train your successor now

  • It is never too early to start looking for your replacement
  • Ensure that your financial policies and procedures are up-to-date and included in your onboarding manual
  • Include a checklist/to do list/calendar in the manual, so that your successor as well as the current board  members are aware of deadlines

Ask: Does your Chapter have an onboarding manual/or something similar?

  • Please share with us your onboarding manual, or any information you usually share with your new Treasurers/Bookkeepers
  • Forward to mchampion@camft.org
  • We will remove all identifying and confidential information and post  to our Playbook as template for those needing to create a manual from scratch

Events/Education/CEPA

Tip: CEs or no CEs? ~ What to do with attendees who are clearly not present during a zoom CE presentation?

  • Attendees should only receive CEs for the time that they attended the workshop
  • If there is proof ( i.e. they are not responding to poll questions, chats, or direct messaging, etc.)  it  is reasonable to give the attendees a portion of the CEs and hopefully they will be more mindful about participating
  • However, refer to your Chapter policy for clarification
  • Be sure to clarify to all attendees in advance what the expectations are for receiving CEs
  • Please note that the BBS no longer uses the term CEUs

Tip: Networking works best when it’s small and specific - Here are a few suggestions:

  • Interactive table exercises during education sessions
  • Meetups for affinity groups or birds of a feather
  • Solution room sessions
  • Ideation sessions or hackathons
  • Community service projects—choose an activity attendees can do together in groups, talking while they work
